It’s one of those things we know to be true on an intellectual level, but we forget it easily in personal experience. Temptation is not the same as sin. This truth is obvious from the Scriptures. In the Lord’s Prayer, we are taught to pray “forgive us our debts†and “lead us not into temptation†(Matt. 6:12-13). Debts and trespasses require forgiveness; temptation needs deliverance. They are not the same.

Jesus wants women to be theologically minded and grounded in the Scriptures. That's why he commended Mary, who sat "at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching" (Luke 10:39), while Martha served Jesus and his disciples. Instead of applauding Martha for her service, Jesus approved Mary for choosing "the good portion, which will not be taken away from her" (Luke 10:42). Mary chose the one thing that is still necessary today. Women who are students of the Bible, serious about studying it and hearing it taught, choose the good portion, the one thing that is necessary.

God never intended the true believer to live the Christian life alone. After Christ’s ascension, the apostles went everywhere starting churches and ordaining elders in each (Acts 14:23). They did this so the young Christians could be strengthened, encouraged, guided, instructed, and above all worship God together.
